Countdown to Fort Bill...

Not long now till the UCI World Cup at Fort Bill... Heres the official press release from the team:

With only three weeks to go, excitement is mounting as riders and fans prepare for the biggest and most important pre-Olympic mountain bike event, the Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup 2008. The competition is promising to be one of Scotland’s best sporting events of the year.

With more than 20,000 eager fans, families and enthusiasts descending on Fort William from 6th to 8th June, spectators can expect an electric atmosphere as they witness the mesmerizing talent of the best 500 riders in the world from 35 countries as they vie for the World Cup title.

With the Beijing Olympics fast approaching, this event is all the more thrilling as it will be the only place to see all the Cross Country medal contenders in action. Riders will compete in three of the most demanding, high-speed events in extreme freesports - Downhill, 4 Cross and the Olympic discipline of Cross Country. They’ll have to ensure they are fighting fit to take on the world-famous terrain and challenging slopes of Aonach Mor and the Leanachan Forest to conquer some of the most gruelling courses on the World Cup circuit. For most nations, including Great Britain, this will be one of the last chances to make selection for their Olympic Team, ensuring an enthralling weekend for everyone.

Tickets to see the action can be purchased at www.fortwilliamworldcup.co.uk or by calling 01397 705 825 (between 9am-5pm).

Mike Jardine, event organiser from Rare Management, says,

“We’re noticing a real buzz around the event this year and demand for tickets is already strong. We want to build on the success and growing appeal of mountain biking throughout the country and we’re confident our British contenders will help us to reach record numbers this year.

“Whether you’re a dedicated mountain biking fan or a newcomer looking for a great day out, this event promises to engage and excite spectators from the moment they arrive.”
