Superstar Components Brake Pads

I bumped into the guys from Superstar at Cwm Carn on Sunday and was VERY kindly given a couple of pairs of these to test.

Superstar reckon their pads are specifically design for UK conditions. They're made to bed in fast, reduce fatigue on the hands and bite at much lower temperatures.

Best of all... they're an absolute BARGAIN at £6.99 a pair!

Their philosophy is all about quality bike parts, low prices and no marketing bullshit. Pretty refreshing.

I'll be giving these a beasting over the next couple of months to see if they are worth the hype.

Our roving reporter Zippy just got some media over from the NPS. He decided to leave the pro camera kit at home and keep it minimal with some phonecam skillz. Cheers buddy!

NPS Ae Forest...

Morning all!

It was an Atherton hattrick with golds for Gee and Rachel, and a silver for Dan. BIG things from them this year for sure.

No media yet cos Zippy's internet is down... But just gave him a call and was treated to some half asleep, piecing together of the weekend...

- According to the boy Zippy it was a great weekend, Saturday was soggy enough for spikes but by Sunday it had dried right up to High Roller weather and conditions were great.

- They'd travelled up with the FoelDHRiders crew and came home with some great results between them, top I think was Andy W in Masters...

- They all got special advanced copies of Dirt who were title sponsors!

- No seeding runs apparently due to a locked gate on the uplift... oops.

- The Monster Energy Drink 100% turns your wee green, but tastes good enough to drink allll day!

I'll get some snaps up soon as the BT man comes round to Zippy's house!

NPS 4X Rd 1 - Chicksands

Round 1 of the NPS 4x kicked off last weekend at Chicky - Here's the word from main man Chris Roberts:

The Uk’s 4X season all kicked off big style.

A massive record entry of riders and 200 motos to get through before the quarter finals it was a tough start to the season.

The super fast hard packed sand Chicksands is always a season favorite, The guys work long and hard at Chicksands Bike park to have the track in tip top condition and this was no exception. The extension to the track with a new 180 degree flat turn made for some exciting last corner moves with quite a few riders getting a mouth full of sand.

Pro Race Boom Boom Scot Beaumont (Rocky Mountain) takes first round with Martin Ogden (Ram Bikes) ,Dunacn Ferris (DMR) and Louis Lacey (Charge Bikes) hot on his heels.
Juniors

This year with Tom Dowie who dominated the series last year moving up to Pro it all was new with Scott Roberts (Flow bikes) was looking good, taking straight wins in all his motos and qualifying with ease but come the final Bernard Kerr just go the edge to take the win in final.
Podiums

Its was like Christmas day on the podium with amazing prizes from, Hayes, Halo Wheels, Spank, ODI Grips, FSO Sun glasses and a box full of helmets, DX Pedals, bars and stems from Madison and custom made Hope Trophies for the top 3.

The next round and the British 4X Championships are on Saturday & Sunday 17/18th May in Bridgnorth Shropshire.

Dale Holmes is already confirmed to be flying in from America just for this race, look out for the fireworks with his old rival Boom Boom racing the British 4X Title.

Young Gun Sam Pilgrim Wins the Vienna Air King

Congrats to UK rider Sam Pilgrim who just won the Vienna Air King dirt jump comp.

The comp saw 45 riders from 13 countries battle it out over a 3 double set. Saturday was the Panasonic Best Trick comp which came down to Benny Korthaus and Sam Pilgrim. Korthaus’s 360-Double Tailwhip got the drop on Sam's Backflip Superman and he took home the win.

Sunday was a showdown between Sam and Martin Soederstroem. Sam through down a Backflip-X-Up One Foot, Superman Seatgrap and 360-Tailwhip... Martin dropped in with a 360, whipped the first double then ended his best run with a Tuck No Hand followed by a 360-Barspin to X-Up. The judges were looking for variety and consistency and Sam took the win, bagging 2,000 Euros and a Panasonic cam for his troubles. Nice one mate!

Matt at Ison says: "We are stoked that Sam is getting the recognition he deserves as one of the brightest talents in Dirt Jumping right now.

Sam is now Internationally acclaimed as one of themost progressive riders that the sport has ever seen and we are proud that he chooses to use Halo, ODI and TSG."

1st Sam Pilgrim (UK)Diamondback
2nd Martin Söderström (SWE)Peak Performance
3rd Bartek Obukowicz (POL)NS Bikes

E-13 LG-1

Just before the weekend a shiney new LG-1 landed on my doorstep thanks to the folk over at Silverfish UK. The LG-1 does away with the normal bashguard and chain guide set up and comes with a small skid plate much like the new G2 guide from MRP.

This will be going on the WideOpen longterm Dialled Holeshot test bike to be put through its paces and see how well it performs in comparison to the G2 as being tested by Pat Campbell-Jenner in issue 6.

There's also a few other spangly new parts heading over to us at WideOpen for the Holeshot test bike so keep an eye out in future issues for reviews on the kit.

King of Dirt Chicksands Rd 1 Mini Interview!!

Oh my god - it's the summer at last! Dry trails, evening rides and OF COURSE dirt jumps!

The trails season is officially kicking off this weekend with round 1 of the King of Dirt series, at Chicksands. Things were looking a bit ropey for this year's KoD but they've pulled it off and it's set to be a good 'un!

Here's the line up for the whole series:

Chicksands - 6th April

Wisley trails - May (date tbc)

NASS 08 - 13th to 15th June

The Track, Cornwall - August 9th

Here's what KoD main man Ben Mark had to say about it:

WO: Who are you and what's your role in this years KOD series?
Ben: I am Ben Mark and I am 21 yrs old and I am running the King Of Dirt for the 08 season with plans to run it for the next few years to come ... I work for Upgrade bikes (a.k.a DMR) in the warehouse.

What can folks expect for the day?

This weekends competition is at Infamous Chicksands trails in the heart of Bedfordshire, with the Open category running on the Middle Line and the Pro Category running on the Big Set.

There will be a 30 min Jam Format for each of the Open and the Pro events where there will be separate competitions included for the open category including a progression element , worst maintained bike, most facial hair / worse dressed rider and many others.

Weather permitting and fingers crossed it will be a fun packed day with live commentary and lots of free bits to be won. The Pro comp is always a good show with lots of riders learning new tricks and more style over the winter training period.

Who have you got confirmed so far?
There is a lot of big riders confirmed from DMR, Identiti, Flow, Static, Superfly and Spank so look out for some massive tricks and some impressive style and flow.

This year there will be a load more sponsors seeing the event progress including a return from the clothing brand Dirtyhabit, new interest from Flow bikes, Spank, Superfly and also the big brands including Identiti and DMR. But the best new feature is the help and support from NIKE 6.0, they are holding there own competition called "killing it " which is for the rider who simply pulls out all the stops! They will win a hand full of Nike 6.0 goodies.

Why is the '08 KOD gonna be AMAZING?!

With a whole load more prizes and a lot more up and coming riders the competition should have a massive push this year. The Pro riders will really have to step up there game to make sure they keep there places on their teams!!!
